The Valencian designer Hortensia Maeso has been betting on signature fashion for years in ceremonies, parties and events, always ready to dress those who want to celebrate.
Hortensia Maeso presented her first collection in 2007 as creative director of Rubio Kids, bringing her romantic universe to the little ones with touches of rebellion. Since then, she has stood out for her know-how and her creative and innovative vision, which is why she received the Award for Best Children’s Fashion Designer 2010 awarded by Tendencias magazine and for which a year later she would be chosen by ICEX to parade at Pitti Bimbo, the children’s fashion fair par excellence.
But part of this talent is undoubtedly related to his origins. Hortensia Maeso was born in Valencia, in a home where looms, needles and threads were a topic of conversation: her mother was a designer and dressmaker, and she ran her own sewing workshop. An example of what is known as ‘sewing and singing’.
In 2013, following in her mother’s footsteps, she founded her own brand, under the name Les enfants de l’eden by Hortensia Maeso. His desire to create several lines of business (baby ceremony, children’s ceremony, communion, bride, guest…) to be able to dress all ages on their most special days, finally made him decide to unify them all under a single firm that bears his name.
The creative develops her garments by hand using the moulage technique “For me my designs are like sculptures. I listen to the materials and mold the fabrics on the mannequin until I find the perfect silhouette.” In her atelier in a town in her native Valencia and with a team made up entirely of women (seamstresses, pattern makers, dressmakers…) she gives free rein to her creativity with designs full of freshness and illusion.
By making garments in small quantities and creating timeless and highly versatile designs, which can be worn on countless occasions, she tackles the sustainability challenges that fashion poses. Its modern and avant-garde designs challenge the tradition of sewing with concepts such as communion in jeans, removable sailor collars or 2-in-1 dresses.
That is why small artists such as Sara Jimenez, Patricia Arbues, Sergio Castellanos or Berta Castañé, the designer’s muse, have chosen the firm on their most special days, and their surprising party looks have already made celebrities such as Paula Echevarría, Edurne, Rocío Camacho or Chanel fall in love.
